Ofwat Discovery Finalist Award (July 2026)

Mounce Hydrosmart Ltd are excited to have been named as a partner to the University of Sheffield as one of 20 finalist projects for Discovery 2. Twenty innovative projects from sectors including aerospace, agriculture and tech will each receive £100,000 to test and develop their solutions, with up to ten finalists each receiving a further £550,000 in April 2027 to take them further. As finalists, over the next 7 months the project team will receive financial support and expert mentorship to advance their solution – the River Situational Awareness Guidance Engine (RiverSAGE).

RiverSAGE will develop smarter ways to protect drinking water from Cryptosporidium, a parasite that can contaminate water sources.Building on tools first developed as part of a @CDT WIRe research project, the work will use new water sector data to predict when and where contamination may happen and identify potential sources. This could help water companies respond earlier, treat water more efficiently, and manage wider water quality risks in response to climate change and conditions of increasing water scarcity.
